The façade is a clear reflection of the contemporary artistic innovation that the foundation aims to support and is another iconic Gehry design.
With the focus of the building clearly on the façade, the Rimex Linen pattern and the way it interacts with light in this heavily faceted design was selected from the broad choices on offer as giving both the look and feel required.
In-house project management in batch and finish control ensured the seamless top end look that a project of this profile demanded. The building has been clad in 14,500m2 of Rimex’s OneTex BA Linen in 316L (1.4404) grade stainless steel.
The Royal Mint Experience is a single-storey building designed by Rio Architects of Cardiff who selected Rimex’s coloured stainless-steel finishes known as ColourTex for the external cladding system. The striking result has been designed in a hexagonal configuration and in multiple shades of coloured stainless steel finishes to create a colour changing effect that varies with light conditions and evokes the iconic design of the 50 pence piece.
The products used are ColourTex Rosy Gold Pearl, Rosy Gold Pagoda, Gold Pagoda and Bronze Pearl.
